CHENNAI: The Chennai Principal Sessions Court on Monday denied bail to a drunk couple, Chandra Mohan and Dhanalakshmi, who were arrested for confronting Mylapore police and hurling abuses at them after being stopped on Santhome’s Loop Road on October 21.
Principal Sessions Judge S Karthikeyan dismissed their bail applications in view of the objection raised by the prosecution.
On October 21, the couple confronted Mylapore police after being stopped on Santhome's Loop Road. They hurled abuses, mocked the officers, and even boasted about political connections with deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin before fleeing the scene.
Hours later, they were tracked down and arrested in a hotel room in Thoraipakkam. An FIR was registered against them under Sections 296(b), 132, 125, 109, and 351(2) of the BNS.
They were later remanded in judicial custody in Puzhal prison. On Monday, when their bail applications came up for hearing, the prosecution produced the videographs of the incident, which were circulated on social media, and objected to entertaining the application.
