Koraput: A 35-year-old doctor and two of his associates were arrested by the police in connection with a robbery at the Arogya centre in Rayagada. The doctor was identified as Rohit Kundu — son of a medical officer posted at the Community Health Centre in Laxmipur, Koraput district — while the other two were lab technician Amulya Saunta and Group IV employee Debasish Garadia, police said.
Police began investigation after Sangram Kishore Nimal, the medical officer at the Rayagada centre, reported the theft of a laptop, CCTV hard disk, and official registers from the meeting hall on Oct 29. Rayagada Town police station inspector in-charge KKBK Kanhar said they found the stolen registers in a pit within the hospital premises, suggesting the involvement of a hospital staff, during investigation.
“During investigation, our suspicion was confirmed. The individuals admitted to the crime,” said Kanhar. “After their confessions, the suspects were taken into custody,” he added. Police said Kundu was recently transferred from the Arogya centre to the district headquarters hospital after allegations of dereliction of duty. “During interrogation, the doctor confessed to the crime and said that a few hospital staff used to disrespect him. So he planned the robbery to settle score,” the IIC said.
