Lucknow: The body of an unidentified woman, estimated to be over a week old, was found in a garbage pile under the staircase of a closed house in Manaknagar on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident came to light after residents smelled a foul odour and notified both the police and the house owner, Aniruddha Sahitya, of Hydel Colony. The police reached the spot and took the body into custody. Efforts to ascertain the identity of the woman are on.
Inspector Ajit Kumar from Manaknagar said that the police received information on 112. People in the area reported that the woman, in her 50's, used to roam around and beg to earn a livelihood. She often slept under the staircase of the house, which had no fencing, he said.
