Hisar: A criminal case has been registered against four people who allegedly beat up a Dalit woman over the issue of clearing dog poop.
The incident took place on Thursday.
Though no accused has been arrested so far, Sadar police station in Haryana’s Hisar registered the case on Saturday (Nov 2) on the complaint of Babli Devi, a resident of Jugalan village, against her neighbour Sewa Singh, his wife Santosh, his mother and Satpal under sections 296 (obscene act), 3(5) (common intention) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS and the SC & ST Act.
Devi said on Thursday (Oct 31), when she was cleaning the house, Sewa and Santosh and his mother came towards her and pulled her hair and said that her dog had defecated in their house and they had to clean it.
When she said that she keeps her dog at home, Sewa got angry and hit the dog with a brick which hit the feet of her daughters Jyoti and Pooja and daughter-in-law Mamta.
As Devi and her daughter made noise, her husband and son came out of the room following which “Sewa's family members started throwing stones”.
After this, the neighbours rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the two families.
While leaving, Sewa’s family members threatened that they would do “the same thing” with them as in the “Mirchpur incident”, Devi alleged.
The Mirchpur caste violence, also known as the Mirchpur Dalit killings, was an incident of violence against the Balmiki Dalits by upper caste Jat villagers in Mirchpur, Haryana on April 21, 2010.
Devi said that her neighbours want to grab her land and this is the reason for the fight.
Earlier too, they had picked up quarrel with her, Devi alleged.
