Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has announced his decision to retire from all forms of cricket after the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. Representing Bengal, Saha shared that this will be his final appearance for his state team, marking the end of a long and respected cricketing career.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Saha expressed, “After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this incredible ride, your support has meant the world. Let’s make this season one to remember!”
Saha has had a longstanding association with Bengal, playing for the team since 2007. He later moved to Tripura in 2022, where he represented the team for two seasons, before returning to Bengal in 2024 for his final run in the Ranji Trophy.
This season, Saha has played in two of the three rounds. His performances included a duck in the first-round match against Uttar Pradesh, while he didn’t get to bat in Bengal’s third-round game against Kerala.
The 40-year-old wicketkeeper previously indicated that he would retire from all formats of the game once he decided to step away. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Saha shared, “I don’t think about the past or the future, only the present. Right now, I am focused on playing for Bengal and giving my best.”
Saha also expressed his willingness to stay connected to Bengal cricket in a coaching capacity post-retirement, stating that he would prefer to contribute through his playing experience rather than take on an administrative role.
Though he will be hanging up his gloves soon, Saha’s dedication and commitment to the game remain evident, as he looks to make his final season a memorable one for Bengal.
