Patna: As the electioneering for bypolls to four assembly seats in Bihar picks up momentum, leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, on Sunday stepped up attack on the ruling NDA, alleging that crime incidents were rising in the state.
On November 13, bypolls would be held in Belaganj, Imamganj, Tarari and Ramgarh seats.
In his post on X, the former deputy CM mentioned a list of 110 crime incidents that took place in the state in the past week and criticised the govt’s failure to rein in the miscreants.
Later, addressing a function in Gaya, he accused the NDA govt of failing to curb the forces trying to foment communal tension in the state. “Frequent attempts are being made to hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community,” Tejashwi alleged, while hitting out at the CM for not “iron-handedly tackling” such forces.
Reacting strongly to such allegations, the JD(U) reminded Tejashwi about the number of massacres that took place during the RJD’s regime headed by his parents. “Before raising fingers at us, Tejashwi must know that altogether 118 incidents of massacres took place during the 15-year RJD regime,” JD(U) spokesperson Arvind Nishad said. He accused the leader of Opposition of providing fake data on crime.
Suggesting Tejashwi to introspect before blaming the NDA, Nishad alleged that the RJD govt did nothing for the victims of the Bhagalpur communal riots, which took place during the Congress rule.
“It was the Nitish govt which gave compensation to the victims of Bhagalpur communal riots and rehabilitated them,” Nishad said, claiming no incident of communal tension has been reported during the 19-year rule of the Nitish Kumar govt. “Not even a day’s curfew has been imposed during the Nitish’s rule,” he said.
