Lucknow: A woman was beaten to death in Lambhua police station area of Sultanpur district on Friday night after protesting against bursting of firecrackers in front of her house. The woman, identified as Kalawati, 42, was a widow and mother four.
The incident occurred in Rayakpur village in Bhadaiyan, where a longstanding dispute existed between Kalawati's family and her neighbour, Durgesh Kumar. On Friday, members of Durgesh's household were setting off firecrackers in front of Kalawati's home. When her family opposed it, a heated altercation broke out. Kalawati's son-in-law, Ram Nayak, intervened, but the confrontation escalated into violence, said police.
Kalawati attempted to mediate but was attacked brutally and sustained severe head injuries that led to her death on the spot. Her daughter-in-law, Pooja, filed complaint at Lambhua police station. Police, led by Lambhua station officer Akhand Dev Mishra, confirmed that Kalawati died from injuries sustained in the altercation. "We have registered FIR," he said.
