Patna: Two motorcycle-borne youths — Ankit Kumar (19) and Rupesh Kumar (22) of Mekra village under Mokama police station area—were killed when a speeding truck crushed them under its wheels in Barh sub-division area of Patna district late on Friday night. The incident took place around 10.15pm near the Pandarak Station Road turn when the truck hit the bike from behind, police said.
Akhilesh Kumar, SI at Pandarak police station, said the two youths died in the road accident.
“The bodies were sent to the Barh sub-divisional hospital for postmortem. After the accident, the truck driver fled with the vehicle. The police are scanning the CCTV footage of the nearby areas to identify the vehicle,” he said.
Both Ankit and Rupesh worked in a private company in Surat and came to their homes for the Chhath festival.
The deceased’s family members said Rupesh came from Surat during Dussehra and Ankit returned home on Friday for the Chhath Puja. “On Friday around 6pm, both the youths left from Mekra village to the market on the same bike. Late in the night, information was received that a truck hit the bike and both of them died on the spot. They were immediately rushed to the Pandarak PHC, where the doctors declared them dead,” said the family members.
