Lucknow: As many as 95 fire accidents from 10pm on Wednesday to 5am on Saturday were witnessed in the city, keeping firemen on their toes as they battled blazes in homes, warehouses and shops. Despite the chaos, no casualties were reported, though some individuals suffered injuries and significant property damage was incurred.
Chief fire officer Mangesh Kumar Singh said a 300-member team of firemen was utilised to the maximum from Chhoti Diwali. "We have 39 big fire tenders and around seven small ones which were kept ready for any eventuality. In markets, proper checking was done and arrangements were made in advance. Likewise, ‘red zones' were designated, which were areas where fires occurred in the past and small teams were deployed with proper tenders stationed," he said. In the coming days, the system will be in place too.
