Mysuru: The department of physical education, University of Mysore, will host the South Zone Inter-University Women's Cricket Tournament from Jan 23 to 28, next year.
The tournament, featuring 25-over matches, marks the first time Mysuru will serve as the venue for this event.
C Venkatesh, director of the department of physical education, said, "We are excited to conduct the tournament for the first time. Over 36 teams from across South India are expected to participate in this six-day event, which will take place at five venues, including the SDNR Wadiyar Stadium and SJCE ground."
UoM's women's team, which secured third place in last year's South Zone competition, will be among the competitors, Venkatesh said.
To ensure the event runs smoothly, the university has set up various committees to manage different aspects of the tournament. Venkatesh said, "This tournament will not only promote women's cricket in Mysuru but will also have a positive impact on surrounding districts."
This initiative highlights the university's commitment to fostering women's sports and enhancing the profile of cricket among female athletes in the region.
