Ludhiana: Following the orders of deputy commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, 14 specially constituted teams have completed first checking of all 58 private dealers and 43 co-operative societies dealing in fertilisers in Ludhiana.
"The checking has been done to ensure sufficient supply of fertilizers, especially di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), and to prevent profiteering practices by dealers who exploit farmers,” an official statement said.
Jorwal said all the private dealers and co-operative societies have been asked to mandatory display stock of DAP/other fertilizers outside their shops/godowns. They have also been directed to ensure bills, issued to the purchasing farmers, to have their mobile numbers. Further, they have been directed not to indulge in overcharging, hoarding, and bundling of unnecessary products with DAP bags, failing which strictest action will be taken against those found guilty. DAP is available at the regulated price of Rs 1,350 per 50 kg bag, he said. The DC said that these teams will continue to conduct surprise inspections of dealers. He also reiterated the Punjab government's commitment to safeguarding farmers' interests and preventing any form of exploitation. tnn
