Kanpur: A major fire broke out in the materials piled outside a rubber and plastic factory in the residential area of Shyam Nagar in Chakeri late Saturday night. The incident caused panic in the factory area. Upon receiving the information, five fire tenders arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.
Kundan Jaiswal, a resident of Lal Bangla in Chakeri owns the rubber and plastic factory in Adarsh Vihar Shyam Nagar which produces nylon ropes and rubber belts. The factory was closed on Saturday due to the festival. It is suspected that the fire was caused by fireworks igniting the piles of rubber and plastic. The fire department personnel with fire tenders arrived and managed to control the blaze after several hours of efforts.
Similarly, a fire erupted in two shops at the Chalis Dukaan market in Kidwai Nagar area during Sunday morning. The nearby residents alerted the police and the fire department after which fire tenders arrived at the location, and the firefighters worked extensively to bring the situation under control.
The marketplace comprises several temporary structures selling puja items. The blaze resulted in damages estimated to be worth several lakh of rupees.
