Jalandhar: Chabbewal-based former Congress leaders Kulwinder Singh Rasulpuri and Gurpreet Singh joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday in the presence of chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Hoshiarpur MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal.
They had resigned from the Congress to protest against the party’s decision to give the ticket to a turncoat for Nov 13 Chabbewal byelection. As they were angry with Congress and had announced to ensure that Congress was defeated, AAP leaders got them in the party.
AAP MP’s son, Dr Ishank, is the AAP candidate from Chabbewal.
On Saturday, Rasulpuri reiterated that Congress betrayed them and they would work to teach it a lesson. Gurpreet is grandson of former Congress MLA late Ram Ratan. He was a Youth Congress leader in Chabbewal.
Rasulpuri, who was working as constituency in-charge in Chabbewal after Congress MLA Dr Raj Kumar switched sides to AAP just ahead of parliament elections, had said he was promised a ticket by the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Partap Singh Bajwa and Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, but they gave ticket to Ranjit Kumar, who was Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from Hoshiarpur in parliamentary election, after inducting him in the Congress without even making it public.
