Jamshedpur: In East and West Jamshedpur, the electoral battle has intensified with candidates accusing each other of hooliganism.
In Jamshedpur East, Congress candidate Dr Ajoy Kumar claimed that he is aiming to end what he calls “25 years of misrule by one family”. He also highlighted several incidents involving family members of Odisha governor Raghubar Das. Taking a potshot at BJP candidate Purnima Das, Kumar questioned her ability to ensure constituency security.
BJP leader Kulwant Singh Bunty dismissed these allegations as “baseless” stemming from Kumar’s “frustration over imminent defeat”.
In Jamshedpur West, JD(U) candidate Saryu Roy, supported by the NDA, accused his Congress rival, Banna Gupta, of fostering rowdyism in the constituency since 2019.
“Vote for the NDA to restore the rule of law,” Roy urged voters during his campaign meetings, promising to end what he termed as “high-handed behaviour” in the constituency. He has also levelled corruption allegations against Gupta. Responding to these charges, Congress district committee spokesperson Sanjay Singh Azad defended Gupta’s record, citing his development work in the constituency. “Roy’s allegations are hardly a matter of concern for us,” Azad said.
