TRICHY: A 32-year-old man from Tiruvarur district, who arrived from Sharjah at Trichy international airport on an AI Express flight in the early hours of Thursday, has been isolated after displaying symptoms of monkey pox. District health officials in Trichy said the man from Vadakku Pattam in Valangaiman taluk works at a private firm in Sharjah.
“We have identified a person with mpox symptoms. He admitted that he had mild symptoms. We have collected his samples and sent it to Chennai for laboratory confirmation. Results are awaited. Till then, we have isolated him at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy,” a senior official told TOI. Mpox virus can spread through close contact with someone who has the infection. It can also spread through contaminated surfaces and sometimes through infected animals as well, the official added.
