Rohtak: Chief minister Nayab Saini marked Haryana Day and Vishwakarma Jayanti with residents in Gohana, Sonipat, on Friday, adding a local touch to the celebrations by trying his hand at making the famous “Maturam Jalebi” at a popular shop.
In his address, Saini challenged Congress’s job promises, saying, “Congress claimed they would provide 2 lakh jobs. Opposition leaders were arguing over how many jobs they’ll secure for themselves, with even party leader Jairam Ramesh approaching the Election Commission to halt the job announcements.” He also slammed Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, calling him a “government doom,” suggesting he unnecessarily escalates minor issues to the authorities.
Responding sharply, Surjewala called Saini “an accidental chief minister,” accusing him of “insulting the Dalit community” and not having the autonomy to appoint even his own personal assistant. He also criticised the govt’s handling of agricultural issues, saying, “Call me what you will. I’m proud to represent the working class and will continue to voice concerns for farmers, labourers, and the poor.”
Reflecting on his administration’s accomplishments, Saini stressed fulfilling promises before taking office, highlighting initiatives such as issuing 25,000 job letters, providing free dialysis, and offering free medical tests in hospitals. “Our vision is a developed and inclusive Haryana,” he stated, praising former CM Manohar Lal Khattar for building a solid administrative base.
Saini also commented on the recent assembly race in the Ganaur constituency, referring to the competition between BJP’s Devendra Kaushik and independent Devendra Kadian. “It was a wrestling match between Kaushik and Kadian. Whoever wins, we are here to applaud,” he said with a smile, noting that both candidates shared the stage with him at the event.
BJP state president Mohan Lal Badoli lauded Saini’s leadership, saying, “Haryana is progressing thanks to Saini’s vision. With dedication of our workers, we will meet public expectations.”
On the longstanding demand for Gohana to gain district status, Saini assured residents that the process is under way. “We are advancing Gohana’s request for district recognition,” he confirmed, referencing his commitment in June on Sant Kabirdas Jayanti, when he announced that a committee had been established to assess the proposal for making Gohana Haryana’s 23rd district.
