Panaji: The ministry of home affairs has awarded the ‘Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak’ to two police officers from Goa.
SP (crime branch) Rahul Gupta and PI Vinayak Patil received the national recognition for their “investigative skills, demonstrating proficiency and commitment to their duties”.
While serving as SP Tirap in Arunachal Pradesh, under Gupta’s guidance, investigation had led to the successful arrest of a top insurgent and associates involved in a major extortion network.
Patil, then officer in charge at Curchorem police station, has been honoured for his precise investigation. On May 6, 2022, an unidentified elderly woman’s body was found with head injuries in Guddemol, Sanvordem. Initially registered as an unnatural death, a detailed autopsy later indicated foul play. The case was then registered under Section 302 of the IPC as a murder investigation. Patil pieced together vital evidence, leading to the case’s resolution.
