Ahmedabad: Cybercrooks took advantage of a man's desperation to find a sex worker, making him move from one hotel to another in Kheda and Ahmedabad. They extracted Rs 3 lakh from him under the guise of different charges.
In a complaint filed with the Mahemdavad police, Rajesh Sharma, 34, who works with a multinational company in Anand said he legally separated from his wife in 2015 and had been living alone without any female companion.
Sharma said that fed up with his loneliness, he decided to seek services of sex workers, and on Sep 25 searched for "escort service" on the internet.
According to the complaint, Sharma found the contact number of a man named Manik Gaus and reached out to him through WhatsApp call. Gaus introduced himself as an escort service provider and sent pictures of some women.
Impressed with the pictures of the girls, Sharma agreed to pay whatever amount Gaus demanded. Initially, Gaus made him register with his escort service by paying Rs 6,000, which Sharma did.
Later, Sharma selected two women from the pictures sent by Gaus and decided to meet them at a hotel suggested by Gaus.
In the FIR, Sharma alleged that he was first sent to a hotel in Ahmedabad, where he paid around Rs 40,000 for two women. Subsequently, he was made to pay money under various fictitious charges like insurance amount, police protection amount, social security amount, and hotel entry amount.
Every day, Sharma was sent to a hotel and made to pay a specific amount to receive the escort service. This continued for about a week, with Sharma being sent to various hotels in Kheda and Ahmedabad and made to pay the money.
When he did not receive any service for a few days, Sharma expressed his displeasure to Gaus, who told him to pay Rs 53,000 more to finally receive the service. Although Sharma paid that amount, he became suspicious and approached the police last week.
On Sharma's complaint, Mahemdavad town police registered a complaint of cheating under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act against unknown persons and began an investigation.
