Guwahati: Four members of Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) were bestowed with the Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak in the “Special Operations Field” category by the MHA. This distinguished accolade acknowledges their exemplary contributions in addressing Assam's critical criminal challenges from March 21 last year to March 20 this year.
The officers are IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta, who is also head of the staff, additional SP Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Lance Naik Hemanta Kachari, and Constable Rajkumar Kaibartta. Under IGP Mahanta’s stewardship, the STF achieved remarkable outcomes through calculated operations targeting drug trafficking, counterfeit currency, and rhino poaching. The team successfully dismantled extensive drug networks, confiscating substantial quantities of illicit narcotics, including heroin, that permeated Assam.
The STF was instrumental in curtailing Rohingya infiltration from Bangladesh into Assam. In March, the force accomplished a significant breakthrough by apprehending ISIS India head Harish Farukhi and his associate, who were orchestrating sabotage activities in the region. This operation effectively dismantled ISIS operations in India, marking a crucial achievement for Assam's security apparatus.
Cachar additional SP Subrata Kumar Sen and Silchar police station OC Amrit Kumar Singha received the Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak in the investigation category for their systematic enquiry into the Jharna Panda (36) murder case of 2022. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Sen scrutinised CCTV footage, leading to the arrest of three accused – Bijay Das, Bikram Das, and Parimal Das. The vehicle was recovered, and its driver admitted to the incident. The SIT resolved the murder within 48 hours.
