Mangaluru: Vitla police in Dakshina Kannada have arrested two persons, who were involved in four theft cases reported at various places in Dakshina Kannada. The arrested are Mahammad Riyaz Hasanabba alias Riyaz,38, a resident of Boliyar, and Mohammad Imthiyaz,38, of Ullal. Police seized items worth Rs 2.9 lakh from the accused.
SP Yathish N said that a police team from Vitla police station arrested the duo from Mani junction. They were involved in theft cases reported at Mithoor and Kodaje in Vitla police station limits. Meanwhile, two separate cases were registered against them in Puttur Town police station for thefts committed at a school and an anganwadi, he said.
Mahammad Riyaz Hasanabba also has theft cases registered against him at Kumble police station in Kasaragod district of Kerala and at Konaje police station. Properties worth Rs 2.9 lakh, including an LPG cylinder and home appliances worth Rs 1.4 lakh, a two-wheeler, and an autorickshaw worth Rs 1.5 lakh used to commit the crime, were seized from the accused, the SP said.

A woman riding a two-wheeler was injured after a mini tipper hit her vehicle near Kambadakone in Byndoor on Wednesday. Police said that Arathi,33, a resident of Ulloor in Byndoor, suffered injuries to her hand and leg and broke her teeth in the accident. The driver of the tipper, Chandra, who was driving the vehicle recklessly, applied the brake suddenly. As a result, the tipper turned turtle and, in the meantime, it also hit Arathi's two-wheeler. While Arathi was thrown to the ground, the soil from the tipper also fell on her. She was admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur.
Byndoor police registered a case under sections 281(rash driving), 125 (a) (act endangering life) of BNS.
