Udupi: Women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said Congress has been implementing five guarantees in various states and will not be stopped at any cost.
"We implemented the five guarantees with foresight, especially to empower women economically, for the first time in the country. This Karnataka model is being followed in other states too," she told reporters here on Thursday.
Regarding deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar's statements on discussions about changes to the Shakti scheme following feedback from commuters, Hebbalkar said there is no need for confusion about the scheme.
"When DK Shivakumar became the KPCC president, Covid-19 was prevalent, and many women were complaining about the price hike in the state. Hence, he thought of doing something to help people who were in distress due to the price rise. The guarantee schemes were implemented after holding discussions with women, and Shivakumar's intentions are clear. These schemes have benefited millions of women, and they will not be suspended under any circumstances," she said.
In response to a query on women saying that they do not want the Shakti scheme, Hebbalkar said it will not become a public opinion if one or two women say something. "Millions of women are benefiting from it. Hence, if one or two say something, let them stop availing of the benefit. Road transport corporations were in trouble before the implementation of the Shakti scheme. Now, they are doing well," she added.
On the upcoming bye-elections in Shiggaon, Sandur, and Channapatna assembly constituencies, the minister expressed confidence that the Congress will win all three seats. "The Congress is working for the welfare of all, without considering their party, religion, and language," she said.
Regarding the waqf dispute, the minister said chief minister Siddaramaiah has already clarified. "Our govt has been functioning without political and religious discrimination. Hence, there is no need to pay heed to allegations in connection with the waqf land issue. The chief minister has said the notices issued to farmers will be withdrawn. I will also not allow injustice to farmers," the minister said.
