Rajkot: Son-in-law of BJP MLA from Rajula in Amreli district was grievously injured after being attacked by a group of people in a violent escalation of an altercation in Jafrabad. Chetan Shiyal, the son-in-law of MLA Hira Solanki, and his relative Manoj, were rushed to a hospital in Bhavnagar, 155km from the coastal town, late on Tuesday night. Chetan is also the president of Amreli Yuva BJP morcha.
Chetan's father Chandrakant lodged a complaint against assailants Yashwant Baraiya, his son Siddharth, Sanjay, and others including an unnamed boatman and a tractor driver.
The complaint states that conflict sparked when he and his younger son Rajendra encountered Yashwant's tractor that was blocking their path at the Jafrabad jetty when they were returning from fishing. When they requested Yashwant to move the vehicle, the situation escalated into a bitter quarrel. Rajendra called his brother Chetan who reached there with relatives Chhagan and Manoj Shiyal.
As the quarrel escalated, the accused allegedly attacked them with steel rods and wooden sticks. Sanjay Baraiya also threatened to kill them, the complaint states.
Chirag Desai, sub-divisional police officer of Jafrabad Marine police station, said Chetan and Manoj suffered grievous injuries in the head. At the same time, police are investigating a social media video showing Chetan brandishing a weapon.
The police detained Yashwant and Siddharth and a search is on for others named in the complaint.
