Ranchi/Bokaro: Gamliyel Hembrom, Vikas Mahto, Shweta Singh and Ajay Dubey were among a few key candidates from BJP and Congress who filed their nominations on the final day of its closure for November 20 elections.
On Monday, both BJP and Congress named their candidates for remaining seats ending days of speculations owing to various reasons. Barhait, considered as the hottest seat of all 81 assembly segments, will see direct contest between outgoing CM Hemant Soren and Gamliyel. In 2019 polls too, Gamliyel fought on Ajsu-P ticket from Barhait, but failed to secure his deposit.
On the other hand, Congress in Bokaro has again fielded Shweta, daughter-in-law of former lawmaker Samresh Singh, who will take on BJP’s outgoing MLA Biranchi Narayan.
After the nomination, Shweta appealed to the public for their support, emphasising her focus on addressing local issues. Shweta said, “I am committed to amplifying the voices of all residents and improving access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.”
State BJP president Babulal Marandi, turncoat Lois Marandi, outgoing minister Hafizul Ansari and many other leaders across key political parties filed their nominations on the penultimate day on Monday. State will poll in two phases — November 13 and 20.
Besides Marandi, who filed his nomination from Rajdhanwar, other prominent candidates from BJP were Sita Soren (Jamtara), Narayan Das (Deoghar), Sunil Soren (Dumka), Nirbhay Kumar Shahabadi (Giridih), Madhav Chandra Mahato (Nala) among others. From Ajsu-P, BJP’s ally, outgoing MLA Sunita Choudhary too filed her nomination from Ramgarh.
