Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Goa as weather conditions continue to be influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southwest Arabian Sea. This system has led to increased cloud cover and rainfall across the state, resulting in a drop in maximum temperatures by one degrees C.
On Oct 29, the Mormugao observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 32.8 degrees C and a minimum of 23.0 degrees C, marking it as the highest maximum temperature in the state for the day. However, a day later, temperatures dipped to a maximum of 31.9 degrees C and a minimum of 25.8 degrees C on Oct 30.
The persistent cloud cover has been attributed to the ongoing weather patterns, with the IMD indicating that light rainfall is expected to continue till Nov 5. The yellow alert issued for Oct 31 and Nov 1 warns residents to prepare for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, which could reach speeds of 30 to 40kmph at isolated locations in Goa.
In light of the weather conditions that could disrupt daily activities and Diwali festivities, residents are advised to stay informed of weather warnings through IMD’s nowcast alerts.
