Berhampur: Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Berhampur, has been featured on the UNESCO-UNEVOC website for its ‘Green Skills for Waste to Wealth’ initiative, reports Hrusikesh Mohanty. This initiative has introduced innovative practices in the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector.
UNESCO-UNEVOC serves as a hub for sharing promising practices on TVET. The ITI initiative focuses on integrating skill development with waste management to transform waste into valuable products. Through this program, ITI Berhampur repurposed scrap materials into various sculptures, reducing waste and providing students with practical waste management experience, said Rajat Kumar Panigrahy, principal of Govt Polytechnic college in Bhubaneswar and former principal of ITI Berhampur, who implemented this concept.
“This global acknowledgement reflects UNESCO-UNEVOC’s endorsement of our efforts,” said Panigrahy. Under Panigrahy’s guidance, ITI students created attractive sculptures from waste materials, such as scrap, automobile waste, and discarded plastic bottles. Many of these sculptures are now on display on the campus.
