Kolkata: State govt has sanctioned Rs 2.4 crore for the Gangasagar Bakkhali Development Authority (GBDA) to upgrade civic infrastructure in preparation for Gangasagar Mela early next year.
Officials have listed 12 specific projects to enhance infrastructure, focusing on the repair and restoration of key road sections connecting to Gangasagar. One of the primary tasks will be constructing a temporary road from No. 2 Mela Road to No. 5 Mela Road near the beach. Restoration will also be carried out on various bituminous roads to improve vehicle access, including stretches from Harimandir to Nagsarobar, Benuban Bypass, PWD Road to Bidhan More and in front of Neempith Ashram near the helipad.
Other key improvements will include repairs and painting at the Kapilmuni Temple, upgrades to the murals at Dala Arcade, and maintenance of the two natmandirs in Gangasagar.
All trident lights and streetlights across the mela grounds, main roads and Bakkhali area will be serviced. Glow signboards will also be installed at strategic locations to assist pilgrims and visitors. Additionally, the children's park, eco cottage premises, tourist lodges and GBDA offices will undergo repairs.
