Calangute: It’s the job of panchs to take up civic works like road repairs, but most ward members are only interested in builders’ files, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said on Wednesday.
“People keep complaining about potholes on roads, about bikes and even four-wheelers getting damaged and accidents taking place. It’s the job of ward members to look into fixing this. But most of the ward members only come to the panchayat office to see the files; which file has come from a builder. That’s the only work going on,” he said.
“I’m not taking any names of panchayats. I’m talking in general. There are some sarpanchs and ward members who are only interested in the files that are coming from builders, and not of the local community. I’ve seen this with my own eyes and I’ve also heard what the people are saying.
“They’re saying potholes should be repaired by the MLA and that it’s not their job,” Lobo said.
There have been a number of protests recently by the Calangute Congress block committee members over the dilapidated condition of the Baga road which has sunk in many places because of the alleged shoddy work on the sewerage pipeline network.
