Panaji: Govt increased the stipend for MBBS interns of the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, by Rs 10,000. The interns will now receive Rs 30,000 per month, compared to the earlier Rs 20,000, said GMC dean Dr S M Bandekar on Tuesday.
Following the academic screening committee’s meeting on Aug 16 last year, a proposal was submitted to increase the stipend. Govt reviewed and approved this recommendation, leading to its current implementation, Bandekar said while speaking at the launch of ‘GOMECO 23-24 Khoj’, a GMC students’ magazine, at the institute premises.
The magazine has articles in 11 languages and contains interviews with seven distinguished medical professionals. It has sections for yoga, wellness, and campus life. The publication also addresses various subjects, including finance, photography, and fashion.
Praising the magazine committee’s work, Bandekar said, “Attitude, ethics, and communication will make the foundation of your curriculum and your life very strong.”
Professor and head of pharmacology, Dr P V Rataboli, who is the magazine advisor, said, “Our students are exceptionally talented not only with their clinical knowledge but also with their literacy activities.”
