Lucknow: In a joint operation by Punjab police and Lucknow police, two shooters from Lucknow, both wanted in separate sensational murders in Punjab, were arrested.
The accused, identified as Bikramjit Vicky and Punjab Singh, were arrested from a house in Sector 14 of Lucknow's Indiranagar area, where they were residing as tenants. An SUV was also recovered.
Bikramjit Vicky is an accused in the murder of Gurpreet Singh Gopi Mahal in Tarn Taran, which took place in March 2024. Police said that AAP party functionary Gurpreet Singh Gopi Chola was shot dead while he was waiting at a railway crossing near Goindwal Sahib on March 1, 2024. According to his family members, Gopi Chola was headed to Sultanpur Lodhi court for a hearing when the incident occurred. An investigation was initiated.The other accused, Punjab Singh, is an accused in the triple murder in Ferozepur in Sep 2024. The shooting took place near Akalgarh Gurdwara in Ferozepur on Sep 3 when the woman, Jaspreet Kaur (26), accompanied by cousin Dildeep Singh and others, were on their way to buy items for the woman's wedding next month.
Six accused, riding two motorcycles, intercepted their vehicle and allegedly opened indiscriminate fire. Four of the accused were carrying weapons, and several rounds were fired, killing Jaspreet and seriously injuring the rest, the police said. Later, Dildeep and one more person succumbed to injuries, while two others were admitted to hospital with serious injuries. Police sources said Dildeep had a criminal record and was released on parole recently in a case.
Police said that both persons have extensive criminal antecedents, with multiple serious offences registered against them, and were reportedly operating under the directions of foreign-based gangsters.
Lucknow assistant commissioner of police Anindya Vikram Singh said that they got inputs from Punjab police about the two shooters and acted on it along with Punjab policemen. "A transit remand of the accused will be taken for taking the two accused shooters to Punjab," he said.
