Ahmedabad: The officials of the state's education department have expressed dissatisfaction over the selection of administrative service officers from revenue department, as it affects the promotion prospects of existing staff. The revenue department's decision to elevate two Class 2 administrative service officers to deputy director positions in the education department deviates from the established norm of promoting Class 1 officers to these roles.
The revenue department issued transfer orders on Oct 25, promoting 122 officers across departments. Among these, two officers were assigned to the education department. Class 1 officer Bhumi Keshwala, previously serving as deputy district election officer, was transferred to the commissioner of school's office as deputy director. Class 2 officer Roop Patel, formerly at special duty (budget), commissioner of land reforms in Gandhinagar, received a temporary promotion as deputy director in the commissioner of higher education's office.
This administrative decision has created tension within the department, as eight DEO-DPEOs, who meet the qualifications for deputy director positions, have been waiting for their promotions for six months, according to internal sources.
