Mandya: Anbu Kumar, the district in-charge secretary, directed officials to take immediate action regarding increasing lake water levels and to provide compensation to rain-affected homeowners.
During a review meeting at the ZP Kaveri Hall, he expressed concern that only 448 out of 968 lakes in the district are full despite adequate rainfall. He directed tahsildars to investigate potential encroachment and ensure all lakes are filled within 15 days.
The significance of lakes for the local water supply was emphasised by Kumar, noting that a single lake can provide water to multiple villages. He announced the availability of Rs 2 lakh from disaster management funds for lake maintenance.
In a presentation, deputy commissioner Kumara said about 448 lakes are at full capacity, 132 between 75-100%, 123 between 50-75%, 122 between 25-50%, and 143 below 25% capacity. He also discussed progress in disaster management and reported reduced child marriage incidents through awareness initiatives.
Addressing compensation matters, Anbu Kumar instructed tahsildars to process and distribute govt aid within 48 hours for 48 rain-damaged houses. He noted that 84 households from Oct were still awaiting compensation and set a two-day deadline for authorities to complete payments and submit reports.
Kumar established academic targets, requiring all students to pass the upcoming SSLC examinations. He requested taluk-level inspections and additional classes to achieve complete success rates.
ZP CEO Sheikh Tanveer Asif provided updates on the Jal Jeevan Mission, reporting 3,61,862 connected families, with 39,263 families pending connection.
District officials, including additional superintendent of police Gangadhara Swamy, were present.
