Upgraded Design Portal of SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant inaugurated to enhance operational efficiency

Continuing the journey towards digital transformation, an upgraded Design Portal of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was inaugurated by Mr. Alok Verma, ED (Mines) with additional charge of ED (Works) at the ED (Works) conference hall on 21st October, 2024.  Mr. Ravi Ranjan, CGM (Design & Shops), Mr. R N Rajendran, CGM (Mechanical), Mr. T P Sivasankar, CGM (SMS-II), Mr. Shekhar Narayan, GM I/c (Design), and other senior officers of the plant were present during the occasion. Mr. Alok Verma also awarded Mr. Ajay Barua, Senior Manager (Design) and Mr. Amit Kumar, Operator (Design) with Shabash Award for their contribution in the Design Portal.

The upgraded Portal is designed to provide uninterrupted, 24/7 access to critical design and engineering resources, including drawings, manuals, and structural inspection reports. This development ensures that users across the plant can access these vital tools any time, enhancing the overall workflow and efficiency of operations. It is noteworthy that the portal is procured through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) at a cost of Rs 95.84 Lakhs.

The upgraded Design Portal has a robust infrastructure ensuring seamless operations and minimized downtime. It has a user-friendly interface designed for ease of use and quick navigation. The portal allows users to monitor and track comprehensive design activities and project statuses. Through notifications and updates, it also keeps users informed about recent developments and additions to the system.

At present, the portal serves 268 users across RSP, providing them with real-time access to crucial resources. The upgrade is a pivotal part of RSP’s larger initiative towards digitization, offering stakeholders enhanced productivity, improved accessibility, and ease of use. The enhanced functionality and user-friendly design of the portal will streamline operations, contributing to RSP’s sustained excellence in steel production.
