Gandhinagar: Solar rooftop systems will be installed on police department buildings to save energy. Systems with a capacity of 237 kW are already installed on buildings of the police department, an official statement said on Monday.
While solar panels are installed with the help of the energy department at the Police Bhavan and the office of the district superintendent of police in Gandhinagar, rooftop solar systems will be installed on police department buildings in all districts, the statement added.
"Solar panel installation work is ongoing at SP offices in some districts, and it will continue in phases in other offices as well. This will save the govt crores of rupees in electricity costs. Moreover, this initiative will protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and ensure their optimal use," the statement said.
In another move to go green, a plastic bottle crusher machine is installed at the Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar. The police have pledged to dispose of plastic waste on-site instead of discarding it anywhere.
The state govt has allocated Rs 177 crore to set up solar rooftop panels on govt-owned buildings. It has also set a target of generating 48 MW of electricity this year through solar rooftop systems on govt buildings.
