Hassan: Union minister for heavy industries HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday expressed confidence in his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy's victory in the Channapatna bypoll and accused Congress of engaging in revenge politics.
Kumaraswamy spoke to reporters after visiting the Hasanamba Temple in Hassan and stated that opposition leaders were employing various strategies and conspiracies in the Nov 13 byelections to three segments in the state. "We will overcome all of them and defeat the Congress with the blessings of the people," he said.
He mentioned that Nikhil would play the role of Arjuna in ‘Mahabharat' and not Abhimanyu. The people of the constituency are confident about Nikhil, he added.
Referring to deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar and his brother, former MP DK Suresh, the minister said that no matter what conspiracies the opponents hatch, the brothers have fielded a candidate hijacked from BJP. Congress candidate CP Yogeeshwara claimed he made Kumaraswamy a Union minister and was responsible for MP CN Manjunath's victory in recent polls. "Why did he fail to convince the BJP high command to get a ticket?" Kumaraswamy asked.
Congress leaders are criticising the Goods and Services Tax system, but it was Congress that drafted the policy. Former prime minister Manmohan Singh prepared to introduce it and also prepared a draft, but he failed to implement it, he stated.
Responding to Congress leaders' criticism that Kumaraswamy is engaging in politics as a Union minister, he said, "The Prime Minister is the one who questions my work. I don't have to answer Congress leaders".
