New Delhi: Two years after a 16-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted, police arrested the accused from Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. The girl was taken by the accused to Kanpur, where the assault occurred, police said.
The accused was identified as Atul Kumar, a resident of Hardoi. Police said that on May 10, 2022, they received a complaint from the girl's father that his daughter was kidnapped by some unknown person. On May 3 of this year, police recovered the girl from Kanpur. During inquiry, police discovered the name of the accused and that the girl was sexually assaulted. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Sanjay Sain formed a team to investigate the case.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was somewhere in Hardoi. A team went there, conducted a raid, and nabbed the accused. According to police, Kumar moved to Delhi for work in 2019 and resided in a rented accommodation in Najafgarh. He met the victim at a shop in 2021.
