Nagpur: City-based Dr Nandini Kuperkar-Babhulkar will contest the assembly polls in Kolhapur district's Chandgad constituency, which her late father Babasaheb Kupekar and mother Sandhyadevi represented. Married to a well-known Nagpurian Dr Sushrut Babhulkar, she is herself a highly qualified medical practitioner. After completing her MD, Dr Nandini also did her fellowship in the UK.
Babasaheb Kupekar, a former Speaker of the state assembly, was a Congress and later NCP stalwart who won the assembly polls five times, with the last one being in 2009 from the newly formed Chandgad constituency (due to delimitation). After he passed away in 2012, his wife Sandhyadevi won both the by-poll and the general poll from Chandgad in 2014.
Now, Dr Nandini is looking to carry forward that legacy. Having worked with her father and mother during election campaigns since 1995, she has considerable experience in the political landscape and has led major social campaigns in the region.
