Bengaluru: A 34-year-old woman from NRI Layout, Ramamurthynagar, was allegedly attacked by a youth for throwing stones at stray dogs in a bid to escape from their attack recently.
According to the complaint filed by the private company employee, Yatish, in his 20s, attacked and insulted her on Oct 23.
The woman and her friend, riding a scooter, were chased by a pack of stray dogs. In an attempt to defend themselves, they threw stones at the dogs, prompting Yatish to confront them aggressively.
"The dogs were turning dangerous, and it seemed that they would attack us at any moment. Therefore, my friend and I pelted stones at them. At that time, the youth stormed out of his house, and got into a fight with us," she told STOI.
The situation escalated when Yatish slapped the woman, causing injuries to her left eye and chin, and snatched the keys of their scooter.
"By then, his family members came out and intervened. Only then did I realise that he had taken away our scooter key, and another round of fighting began when I demanded it back," she said.
Following the incident, she sought medical treatment at a hospital before lodging a complaint with Ramamurthynagar police.
Police have registered a case against Yatish under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 74 (Violence or criminal force against women intended to outrage their modesty), 79 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 126 (Wrongful restraint), and 115 (Voluntarily causing hurt).
However, the suspect is at large. An investigating officer said: "Initially, he came to the station when the victim approached us. However, on realising that an FIR was being registered against him, he escaped. We'll trace him soon."
