Kanpur: A teacher severely beat up a student of Class 3 of a primary school in Aurai, Chhibramau block, of Kannauj district on Thursday for not irregular attendance.
The incident, captured on video by villagers, went viral on social media, after which basic education officer Sandeep Kumar assigned block education officer Anand Dwivedi the task to investigate the matter.
According to other teachers, the child was slapped because he rarely attended school and failed to complete his homework.Villagers alleged that the accused teacher Jaswant Rai was known for his harsh treatment. The BEO also noted that the school headmistress, Neelima Tiwari, was absent due on the day of the incident occurred.
The BSA suspended Jaswant Rai for violating the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which prohibits corporal punishment in primary schools. The teacher was also transferred to another primary school in the district. The investigation has been handed over to Saurikh BEO, Sarvesh Kumar.
