NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of a "deep conspiracy" to harm its leader, Arvind Kejriwal, during his 'padyatra' campaign in Delhi's Vikaspuri area.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that the incident, which took place on Friday, involved "BJP goons" and demonstrated "police complicity," indicating a serious threat to Kejriwal's life.
Singh in a press conference emphasised that Kejriwal will continue to undertake his scheduled 'padyatra' campaign. When questioned about the absence of a formal complaint, the AAP leader argued that the incident would not have occurred if the police had been impartial and had taken action to prevent the attackers, whom he claimed belonged to BJP's youth wing.
Singh said that the police have the authority to investigate the incident independently, and the AAP is currently seeking legal advice for further action.
The AAP MP accused BJP leaders of supporting Kejriwal's "attackers", while BJP representatives dismissed the AAP's claims, asserting that the protests were a result of local residents' dissatisfaction with the supply of contaminated water to their homes.
Singh maintained that Kejriwal would "neither stop nor bow down" and would continue to advocate for the people of Delhi. He warned that if any harm befalls Kejriwal, the BJP would be held accountable, and the citizens of Delhi would seek retribution against the party.
