Jaipur: In a move to boost open-source AI in India, "IndiaAI" and Meta announced the launch of the Centre for Generative AI, "Shrijan", at IIT Jodhpur. Meta pledged Rs 7.5 crore over three years to this centre. Ministry of electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) secretary S Krishnan emphasised the strategic partnership's role in advancing India's AI mission through indigenous research and applications, ensuring India's progress in the global AI landscape. IndiaAI is the official platform of the union govt for Artificial Intelligence.
An official statement by PIB says, "Meta committed Rs 7.50 crore over three years to foster groundbreaking research at the centre, aimed at tackling challenges in education, mobility, and healthcare. This GenAI CoE will nurture an ecosystem for AI through open-source initiatives, capacity building, and policy support. It will bring together researchers from IIT Jodhpur, PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS Jodhpur, and others to develop sustainable AI solutions for India's future, monitored annually by MEITY and Meta." tnn
