Mysuru: Kannada writer and playwright Kotiganahalli Ramaiah on Saturday kicked off the "Matina Mane" monthly programme organised by Rangayana, in which outstanding professional theatre personalities and artistes share their experiences.
Rangayana, one of the noted theatre repertories in the state, has organised these monthly talk shows for the benefit of budding artistes, theatre buffs, and other enthusiasts.
On the inaugural day, writer Abdul Rasheed interacted with theatre personality Saraswathi, also known as Zulekha Begum. Zulekha Begum said that artistes have no caste or religion. "They are beyond such identities and borders. Their only asset is talent," she said. She also said becoming an artiste in the theatre profession and surviving in this field is not easy for all, adding that this profession is not a bed of roses for everyone.
People also call this field "cursed." To become an artiste, one should face all odds, ups and downs in life, adversities, and must learn to stand up against adverse circumstances.
She said that there are many incidents in the life of artistes as they must perform even after receiving shocking news, like the death of their family members. She said that while she was a breastfeeding mother she was forced to perform on stage 11 days after giving birth to her baby.
Speaking on the occasion, Rangayana director Satish Tiptur said that his repertory organised this show to help the budding artistes of this generation, besides providing a platform for senior artistes to share their experiences.
Joint director of Kannada and culture VN Mallikarjunaswamy was present.
