Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad police commissioner has, through a notification, banned the use of firecrackers, horns, noise-producing construction equipment, loudspeakers, and musical instruments between 10pm and 6am.
The notification issued stated that during Diwali, due to firecrackers, and during Navratri festivals, as well as during weddings and gatherings, noise pollution is observed from the use of loudspeakers, drums, and public address systems. Noise pollution is also seen in residential areas due to industrial activities, vehicular movement, horn usage, and construction equipment.
The notification, quoting the rules, states that it is the responsibility of the managers of auditoriums, conference halls, community halls, and party plots to display signboards visibly, ensuring compliance with noise standards.
The notification states that microphone systems cannot be rented for use on public roads or places, or for gatherings in private spaces near residential areas, party plots, or open spaces. This also applies to areas within a 100-meter radius around hospitals, educational institutions, courts, and religious sites, which are considered silent zones.
Additionally, the notification states that microphone systems should not be used for speeches or songs that incite provocation or communal feelings. The notification states that processions should walk on the left side of the road, not obstruct traffic, adhere to all traffic rules and laws, and not stop for dancing or singing on public roads.
