Panaji: The traffic cell at Mopa detained a vehicle on Friday for using a taxi app, which is not permitted in the state, to book a taxi.
Police said that a taxi was hired by a tourist in Calangute through a taxi app, which is not allowed in the state, and the driver came to drop the passenger at Manohar International Airport in Mopa at around 9.30am.
Police said that they have received several complaints from taxi operators at Mopa airport that some taxis are using the app which is not permitted in the state.
Mopa traffic cell PI Mahesh Kerkar said they received information that a taxi had arrived at the airport, after it was booked through a taxi app not allowed to operate in the state, and a team was dispatched to check the taxi.
Kerkar said that the driver came to drop off a tourist from Calangute, and on the return journey, his taxi was again booked by a customer via the same app. “We detained the vehicle, and a report has been sent to RTO Mapusa for necessary action,” he said.
Kerkar said that it has come to light that, to attract customers, some taxi operators are downloading the app though not permitted in the state.
