CHENNAI: Two men, identified as Pankaj Lalwani and Suraj from Sowcarpet, appeared before investigation officers at the CB-CID office on Friday in connection with the seizure of ₹3.98 crore from an express train on April 6.
Police suspect that the money was transacted by the duo. The investigation was aimed at confirming whether it was a hawala transaction or conducted through legal means.
The money was carried by S Sathish, 33, S Naveen, 26, and S Perumal, 26. Sathish was the manager of Hotel Blue Diamond in Purasawalkam, which is owned by BJP leader Nainar Nagendran. Inquiries revealed that the cash was being taken for distribution to voters in Tirunelveli Lok Sabha constituency where Nagendran was contesting.
