Panaji:Goa Children’s Court has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-month-old baby in a case dating to 2015. The father of the baby girl complained that the accused, aged 19 at the time, kidnapped her on Oct 30, 2015, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
The complainant said the teen took the baby to a vehicle belonging to his father and raped her, causing bleeding injuries. The accused was arrested the next day. The then Ponda police inspector, Sudesh R Naik, investigated the case and filed a chargesheet in Jan 2016.
The Children’s Court sentenced the man to 20 years in jail for rape under the Indian Penal Code and fined him Rs 5 lakh. He received another 20 years under the Goa Children’s Act, 2003, and was fined Rs 2 lakh. Additionally, he was sentenced under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act to 20 years of imprisonment and fined Rs 2 lakh.
Moreover, the court sentenced him to five years for kidnapping and fined him Rs 50,000, and he received an additional one-year imprisonment for wrongful confinement. All the sentences will run concurrently.
