Guwahati: As Cyclone Dana made landfall in Odisha, triggering massive storm surge and heavy rainfall, the northeast region will experience light to moderate rainfall on Friday, weather experts said.
“Apart from overcast skies and light rainfall, there is no cautionary advisory for tomorrow (Friday) in the northeast region,” said KN Mohan, the head of the regional meteorological centre of IMD.
On Thursday, IMD proclaimed sporadic thunderstorms and lightning over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Friday and Saturday, with isolated rains in Arunachal Pradesh, followed by a diminishing trend thereafter.
Authorities said the storm is very likely to move north-northwestward and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara as a severe Cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph after midnight Thursday, it added. Guwahati and its neighbourhood witnessed cloudy sky with light rain on Thursday. Met officials however said that the weather will improve on Friday. IMD has predicted generally cloudy sky with light rain over Guwahati and neighbourhood in next 24 hours.
With maximum and minimum temperatures most likely to be 27 Degrees Celsius and 23 Degrees Celsius respectively.
