Surat: A woman from the city, married in Mumbai, was allegedly raped by her husband's elder brother and tortured by the family over several issues.
Recently, the woman returned to her parents' house in the city and filed a complaint with the Salabatpura police station.
The woman moved to Mumbai after her marriage in April and lived with her husband, his two brothers, and his mother. After a few days of marriage, her mother-in-law allegedly started torturing her over domestic work. Her husband's elder brother also harassed her over various issues.
One day, her brother-in-law became enraged when she raised some issues with her mother-in-law. He then sent the woman's husband to the market to buy something, entered the woman's bedroom, and raped her.
After returning to Surat, the woman did not immediately reveal the sexual assault, hoping to reunite with her husband. However, as it did not happen, she told her parents, who advised her to file a complaint.
