Berhampur: The Ganjam administration evacuated around 10,000 people to the nearest cyclone shelters due to the possibility of heavy rain the district under the influence of Cyclone Dana. Though the cyclone was unlikely to make landfall in the coastal areas of Ganjam district, weather agencies predicted heavy rain and wind speed of 50 to 60 km per hour during landfall.The downpour is expected to continue until Saturda. “People living in low-lying areaa and kutcha houses were relocated,” said Sudhansu Bhoi, ADM of Ganjam. “They were provided with cooked food, drinking water and other essential commodities in the cyclone shelters,” he added. tnn
