Ghaziabad: The district is seeing a significant rise in dengue cases, with at least 21 cases reported from Tuesday to Thursday this week. Of these, around 10 patients have been admitted to hospitals. The total dengue count in the district is 113 so far this year. In light of the surge in cases, the health department has prepared a special action plan to check on dengue mosquito breeding and identify more patients and tests.
Officials said that most patients are presenting with symptoms such as high fever, diarrhoea, and vomiting.
"On Thursday, seven patients were admitted to the hospital. Generally, we provide initial medications for dengue, and only if the patient's condition gets serious do we admit them. Several patients showed low platelet counts too," said Dr Rakesh Kumar, CMS at MMG Hospital.
As per health department data, the highly sensitive areas from where most of the recent cases were recorded include Vasundhara, Vaishali, Indirapuram, Rajendra Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Kaila Bhatta, Abhay Khand, Gyan Khand, Ahinsa Khand, and Siddharth Vihar.
Dengue tests are being done free of cost for every patient suffering from fever. Around 100 fever patients are being tested every day. Out of these, 2-3 patients are found to be dengue positive. Rapid response teams' visits have been ensured for case-based activity on every positive case. Their investigation of Aedes mosquito breeding centres and spraying of insecticide is being ensured," said Dr RK Gupta, ACMO of Ghaziabad.
The ACMO further explained that information about all positive cases is being provided to local authorities, and they are ensuring that action is being taken for prevention and protection in their respective jurisdictions. In this regard, a coordination meeting was organised in which regional ASHAs, ANMs, and health workers were instructed to spread awareness about the prevention and control of dengue.
"In October, sensitisation programmes were organised at about 50 places. In this way, from April till date, sensitisation has been done at about 250 schools, colleges, and workplaces. Anti-larva sprays are also ensured," Gupta added.
Meanwhile, the district has also recorded 23 malaria cases so far this year.
