GHAZIABAD: A 26-year-old man was arrested with two of his friends for allegedly killing his mother with a brick after she refused to give him Rs 20,000 to repair his music system.
Mohit, police said, picked his 55-year-old mother up from her workplace, took her to a deserted area near Tronica City on a bike and smashed her face with repeated knocks of a brick as his two friends held her hands.
Sangeeta Tyagi, Mohit's mother, worked with a thread manufacturing factory. On Oct 4, Sangeeta was found dead in Mandola village — just 300 metres from the factory where she worked.
Sangeeta had two sons, Manish and Mohit. While Manish is a security guard in Delhi, where he lives with his wife and children, Mohit works as a DJ and takes bookings for various events. Sunil, her husband, is a caretaker at a property in Hapur.
Earlier this month, Mohit needed Rs 20,000 to repair his speakers and head to a temple in Delhi's Kalkaji for Navratri.
When he asked his mother for the money, she not only refused to pay him but insulted him as well. Sangeeta allegedly threatened to transfer their entire property in their elder son's name, accusing Mohit of not doing a "serious job" and living off her instead.
That's when Mohit decided to kill Sangeeta. "On Oct 2 night, he went to Kalkaji for some puja and returned home the next morning. After waking up in the afternoon, Mohit went to a liquor shop in Mandola, where he met his friends Sachin Tyagi and Ankit. He drank with them and rued how his mother had insulted him and refused to pay him the money," said Surendra Nath Tiwari, DCP (rural).
Mohit sought his friends' help in killing his mother. "Around 9pm on Oct 3, Mohit took Sachin's bike to pick up Sangeeta from the factory. He said he would drop her home, but took her to an isolated area where the two friends were waiting. While Sachin and Ankit held her hands, Mohit smashed his mother's face with a brick and killed her there," Tiwari said.
Mohit and his friends were arrested from their homes in Mandola on Thursday. Police have seized the motorcycle on which Mohit picked up Sangeeta from her workplace. All three were booked under Section 103 (murder) of BNS.
